- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, with reference to the response to the Statutory review of the Pubs Code and Pubs Code Adjudicator: 2022 – 2026, what consideration his Department gave to introducing a guest beer right for tied pub tenants.
- Answer
-
The Statutory review did not explicitly seek views on guest beer rights. The scope of the code, covering six pub owning businesses with 500 or more tied tenants, means that it only applies to a small portion of the businesses in the sector. These regulated businesses already voluntarily allow for guest beer to be sold by their tied tenants.
Separately, the Government conducted a broader review of the beer market in the wider hospitality sector to assess whether there are structural barriers across the sector affecting access to pubs for small breweries.
