Morocco and Western Sahara
- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, with reference to the consideration of the Moroccan Autonomy Proposal, if he will note the potential merits of the proposal addressing the principle of self-determination including the option of independence.
- Answer
-
The UK has endorsed Morocco's 2007 autonomy proposal as the most credible, viable and pragmatic basis for a lasting resolution of the Western Sahara dispute. We continue to engage with all relevant parties in support of the UN-led process to achieve a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution, based on compromise, which conforms with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, including respect for the principle of self-determination.
