Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government: Press Releases
- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, for what reason the MHCLG press release, Right to Buy overhaul to safeguard social housing, released on 28 April 2026 was issued during the local government pre-election period.
- Answer
-
My Department did not proactively issue a press release about Right to Buy reforms during the local government pre-election period.
It did, however, publish a news story on gov.uk which can be found here. This provided a factual update about the scheme, which was within the scope of the pre-election period guidance. No new policy was announced.
