Hill Farming: Lake District

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is their assessment of the contribution of hill farmers in the Lake District to the welfare and long-term conservation of heritage sheep breeds.

The Government recognises the valuable contribution of hill farmers in ensuring the well-being and survival of heritage sheep breeds in the Lake District. Long traditions of shepherding and sheep such as Herdwicks and Rough Fells are part of the distinctive culture and landscape of the Lakes.
