Chewing Gum: Taxation

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what consideration they have given to the introduction of a tax on chewing gum to be used to fund local authority clean-up programmes for discarded gum.

The Government published the Litter Strategy for England on 10 April. The Strategy sets out a range of measures to tackle litter, which includes chewing gum, and littering behaviour.
HM Treasury has not given consideration to the introduction of a tax on chewing gum.
