Africa: Slavery

Question: To ask His Majesty's Government what work they have done on ending chattel slavery in (1) Mauritania, (2) Mali, (3) Sudan, (4) Libya, (5) Niger, and (6) other African states.

Answer: The UK is committed to playing its part in eradicating all forms of modern slavery, forced labour and human trafficking - this includes engaging with the newly appointed Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery and trafficking. We continue to work with partners through a range of multilateral bodies including the United Nations and Alliance 8.7 to grow the international consensus and encourage joint action to tackle modern slavery.
