Proceeding contribution from Greg Clark (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Monday, 6 March 2017. It occurred during Urgent question on Opel/Vauxhall: Sale to PSA Group.
Opel/Vauxhall: Sale to PSA Group
The hon. Gentleman is right that we need to stay engaged and to make sure that these commitments are delivered. I will make sure that we do that, as will colleagues in the trade unions and others. I think the hon. Gentleman will agree that it is important that these commitments have been given very clearly in writing today, which is far better than the opposite.
As for the experience of Peugeot in Ryton, he will know that I have raised the matter with the management of PSA in the past. They describe a very different strategy from that which they pursued at that time. It is a different management, and their strategy now is based on expanding production, not closing plants, which again I welcome.
