What are DTps reasons for supposing that the northern route which they have now proposed for A303 through no less archaeologically sensitive landscape would be more acceptable to informed opinion that its earlier 'grey route' and 'yellow route' proposals, both of which have been found to be unacceptable.

Whether, despite HMGs assurances in 1992 and 1993 that they were committed to upgrading the A.1 trunk road between Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Edinburgh to dual carriageway throughout its length, that pledge has now been abandoned; and, if so, why in view of their recent statement that priority will be given to schemes involving major trunk roads. -
