Mr. Clappison: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will list (a) the education authorities which did not accept Standards Fund grants available through the provision of matching funding in each of the last two years and (b) the amount of grant involved in each case; and how the undistributed funds were used. [126319] Ms Estelle Morris: The tables show the sums initially surrendered for the main Standards Fund programme. We cannot separately identify where this was due to difficulty in finding match funding. Most authorities accepted allocations in full in both years. The requirement for authorities to contribute to the 2000-01 Standards Fund of over £1.6 billion supported expenditure was allowed for in the 5.4 per cent. increase in education Standard Spending Assessment for 2000-01. Surrendered sums are re-used in full for supporting education priorities, mainly within the Standards Fund programme. Mr. Clappison: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will list the 10 local education authorities with (a) the highest and (b) the lowest rate of pupils staying on for post-16 years education. [120918] Mr. Wicks: We are committed to a step change in participation and attainment rates for 16 and 17-year-olds. The Learning and Skills Bill sets out reforms in post-16 education and training which we believe will make a significant impact. We have announced details of the new Connexions Service which will provide advice, guidance, information and support service for all 13 to 19-year-olds, whatever their needs and circumstances. Five Connexions Service pilots were announced on 3 February 2000 evaluating various aspects of the new service. The information requested on participation in education by LEA is contained in the following table. There are no data available on participation in Government Supported Training by LEA but there is evidence that higher rates of training by TEC areas compensate for low levels of full-time education. Member for Hertsmere on infant class sizes, if he will give a breakdown of the 1,600 new classrooms to which he refers (a) by type of school and (b) by local education authority. [96918] Ms Estelle Morris: To date, over 1,700 extra classrooms have been provided through the class sizes initiative. These are detailed by both local education authority and type of school in the following table. Sufficient funding has been earmarked to allow at least 800 further classrooms to be built by September 2001, when statutory limits on infant class sizes are introduced.
