That this House calls for Government action against freeholders who engage in activities often against vulnerable homeowners, such as refusing to take cheques paid in advance and then charging a fine for non-payment at the due date, failing to cash cheques properly sent and then charging an extortionate fine for late payments, cashing cheques properly sent and then charging an extortionate fine for supposed late payment, threatening to visit the home and gain access unless photographs are sent, charging for registering extensions when the lease terms make no such requirements and requiring levels of third party insurance on the property which are disproportionate and from the insurer unreasonably insisted on by the freeholder.

That this House notes the severe illness and deaths of haemophiliacs and some partners from HIV and hepatitis C, caused by the use of contaminated blood products, and the potential for future deaths from vCJD; and supports the Haemophilia Society in its call for an independent public inquiry into the contamination of haemophilia treatment since the 1970s, in particular the failure to make the UK self-sufficient in blood products, the failure in some parts of the UK to make a timely switch to virally inactivated treatment when this became available from 1985 and the failure to make timely provision of genetically-engineered recombinant Factor VIII and IX for all haemophiliacs.

That this House wishes to see public recognition for the 3,000 men of the Calais Diversionary Force who went to certain capture or death in May 1940 to allow 240,000 lives to be saved at Dunkirk and for the suffering of those who survived as prisoners of war, force marched hundreds of miles at both ends of the war, inadequately fed, shod and clothed and forced to work in conditions such as the coal mines surrounding Auschwitz.
