Mrs. Gillan: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills if he will list the projects to which his Department has allocated funding in (a) Chesham and Amersham and (b) Buckinghamshire since 1 January 1997, indicating the amount in each case. [81187] Mr. Miliband: The following tables show the total amounts provided by the Department through the standards fund and capital programmes in the Chesham and Amersham constituency and Buckinghamshire local education authority since 1997-98. Chesham and Amersham figures are part of the Buckinghamshire figures. It is not possible to give the standards fund allocations within the Chesham and Amersham constituency. The standards fund includes both Government grant and local authority contributions. Copies of tables giving a breakdown of the funding for these programmes have been placed in the House of Commons Library. Mr. Robert Banks: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many primary schools in England and Wales have opted into grant-maintained status; and what are the average league tables scores for (a) grant-maintained schools and (b) schools under local education authority control. [20675] Mrs. Gillan: There are now 486 grant-maintained primary schools in England. Pupil attainments are generally higher in GM schools than LEA schools; details of their relative performance in national curriculum assessments and GCSE examinations are given in the following tables. Grant-maintained schools in Wales are a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales. Mr. Gordon Prentice: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will place in rank order the number and percentage of school pupils who are (a) statemented and (b) awaiting statementing in each local education authority in England. [19304] Mrs. Gillan: The following table shows the number of school pupils with statements, and this number expressed as a percentage of total school pupils, attending school in each local education authority in January 1996. Figures are taken from returns to the Department in the annual schools census. For any particular LEA, they will include pupils with statements placed by other LEAs, and exclude such pupils placed by the LEA in other LEA areas. Information on numbers of pupils awaiting statements is not collected centrally. Mr. Blunkett: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if she will list (a) by local education authority in England and (b) in total, the number and percentage of 16-year-olds who left school with no formal qualifications, broken down by gender, for the past five years, including 1996. [12192] Mrs. Gillan: The information requested is not available for 16-year-olds who left school. However, the following table shows the number and percentage of all 15-year-olds--at start of the year--in maintained schools in England who failed to achieve a pass at GCSE, although some of them might have achieved a vocational qualification, for each year since 1992. The information is not yet available for 1996. [11958] Mrs. Gillan: The table lists each local education authority's 1997-98 annual capital guideline in cash terms and at 1995-96 prices. It also lists, at 1995-96 prices, the average capital allocation--annual capital guideline plus any supplementary credit approvals--for each LEA for the period 1993-94 to 1996-97. Comparable data for 1992-93 can only be provided at disproportionate cost. We expect to issue further supplementary credit approvals in 1996-97, and to issue supplementary credit approvals totalling about £66 million--or £63 million at 1995-96 prices--in 1997-98. The table does not include allocations under capital challenge. [11588] Mrs. Gillan: The following table shows the number of premature retirements for each of the last 10 years. The figures vary, but the peak of numbers in 1995-96 was 44 per cent. above the numbers in 1986-87. My right hon.
