To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, which flood defence maintenance works were undertaken in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland constituency in each year since 2010; and what the cost to the public purse was of each of those works.
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, which flood defence maintenance works were undertaken in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland constituency in each year since 2010; and what the cost to the public purse was of each of those works.
The Environment Agency regularly cleans and maintains several debris screens on the upper reaches of the Ormesby Beck, Middle Beck and Marton West Beck in Middlesbrough. Other maintenance works by the Environment Agency consist of works to maintain, or improve, the flow of water in rivers where it reduces flood risk to homes.
In accordance with data retention rules, the Environment Agency does not hold financial records for more than five years. The table below outlines expenditure since 2011/12.

In 2008 the Labour Government invested £18 million into Tees valley bus services, one of which—the 37—linked Park End with James Cook university hospital. That service is now under threat due to 24% cuts from this Government to local bus services. At the end of August the Government also closed Park End’s medical centre, which had been opened by the previous Labour
Government. People in that area now have no access to medical services, except for the 37 bus, which the consultation at the time said linked Park End with the local hospital. Will Ministers meet me and the local authority to ensure that we keep that vital bus service?

Outside London more than 40% of money going into bus services comes from the Government one way or another, but many local bus services are under pressure because of the pressure placed on local authorities. A new station at James Cook hospital means that people who use the rail line from Whitby in my constituency, or Middlesbrough in the hon. Gentleman’s constituency, can access the hospital by train, which was not the case previously.

As Director General for the Office for National Statistics, I have been asked to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question asking the Minister for the Cabinet Office, what change there has been in median gross pay for women in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland constituency since 2010. (178349).
The Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE), carried out in April each year, is the most comprehensive source of earnings information in the United Kingdom. Weekly levels of earnings are estimated from ASHE, and are provided for employees on adult rates of pay, whose earnings for the survey pay period
were not affected by absence. Figures relate to employee jobs, which are defined as those held by employees and not the self-employed.
I attach a table showing estimates of median gross weekly earnings for female employees in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland constituency from 2010 to 2012, the latest period for which results are available. These figures show that there was a 10.6 per cent decrease in median gross weekly earnings for women between April 2010 and April 2012.

I have been asked to reply on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions.
Between May 2010 and May 2011 the number of women in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland claiming jobseeker's allowance for more than 12 months fell from 125 to 115. From June 2011 to September 2012 the number rose to 345.
This trend reflects that under the New Deal programme operating until June 2011, young people were not allowed to claim JSA continuously for more than a year and adults were not allowed to claim for more than two years. This held the number of long-term claimants below its true level, with some people who had been out of work for an extended period, having been moved onto a training allowance before returning to JSA, counted as short-term unemployed. The number of long-term JSA claimants rose because this no longer happened—individuals joining the Work programme continue to receive JSA until they find regular employment.
In the last year the number of women with a long-term JSA claim in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland has started to fall, reaching 305 in October 2013.

[holding answer 29 January 2013]: Ofcom's Communication Infrastructure Report 2012 stated that current generation broadband is available in close to 100% of premises in the UK. Ofcom estimated that 1.3% of UK premises were in potential broadband
notspots, but noted that where broadband is not available via fixed access networks, customers may have access via other technologies such as satellite and mobile services or local community schemes.

No consideration has been given to the merits of situating the East Middlesbrough Community Justice Court in East Middlesbrough as the Community Justice Initiative of which East Middlesbrough was part ended in 2009.
At the end of the pilot East Middlesbrough cases were absorbed back into the general work of Teesside magistrates court.

Both East Middlesbrough Community Justice Court and Teesside Youth Court operate within Teesside Magistrates Court and their case data are therefore captured as a part of Teesside Magistrates Court data. The following table presents figures for the number of criminal cases dealt with in Teesside Magistrates Court between 2009 and the second quarter of 2012, The data collection system for magistrates courts changed in 2008, so comparable data are only available from 2009 onwards.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) compiles the number of claimants of Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) from the Jobcentre Plus Administrative system.
Table 1 shows the number of people aged 18 to 24 resident in Redcar and Cleveland and Middlesbrough local authorities, who were claiming JSA on the requested dates.

The police recorded crime data held by the Home Office shows that there were 1,074 recorded offences of ‘burglary in a dwelling’ in Middlesbrough in the 12 months to December 2011. There were an additional 949 recorded offences of ‘burglary in a building other than a dwelling’ in Middlesbrough during the same period.

Antisocial behaviour orders (ASBOs) are issued by courts. Data relating to ASBOs are not held below the level of a Criminal Justice System (CJS) area and any order issued by a court in one CJS area may relate to a prohibition in a neighbouring area.
The latest data available for 2010 shows that there were 26 ASBOs issued by all courts in the Cleveland CJS area which contains Middlesbrough local authority.

The Department does not collect constituency-level data on the education maintenance allowance (EMA) or the 16-19 Bursary Fund. The 2011/12 academic year is the first in which the 16-19 Bursary Fund has been operating, and a breakdown is not yet available on the proportion paid as discretionary payments and on the number of £1,200 bursaries paid to vulnerable groups.
Data for 2010/11 and 2011/12 academic years are available on the total EMA and 16-19 Bursary payments for the two local authorities which the Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland constituency falls within. This includes data on EMA transitional arrangements which are in place this year.
