91/628 in respect of the disinfection of transport. [159587]
Ms Quin: [holding answer 27 April 2001]: These requirements are currently implemented by the Transport of Animals (Cleansing and
Disinfection)(England)(No. 2) Order 2000 (SI 2000/1618), which came into force on 6 July 2000. The main provision of this Order is
that, subject to certain exemptions, livestock transports should be cleansed and disinfected after each use. Guidance on the Order
was issued in November 2000 to all members of the State Veterinary Service and to local authorities who enforce the Order.

Mrs. Curtis-Thomas: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what the standards of fire cover were in percentage terms
for the year April 1999 to March 2000 for each fire service in Wales and England. [159766]
Mr. Mike O'Brien: The Home Office, the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) and the Audit Commission have
agreed three Best Value Performance Indicators (BVPI) to measure how well brigades are meeting the standards of fire cover. These
are shown in tables 1-3.

records held centrally are catalogued by fiscal year and cannot be converted to a calendar year basis. The records for Merseyside

As National Statistician, I have been asked to reply to your recent question about staff and resources in this Office (155084).
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) employed 2,917 full time staff and 532 part-time staff in 1999/2000, and 3,161 full time
staff and 578 part-time staff in 2000/01. All of these employees are based in England and Wales. The Office also employs an
interviewing field force of 1,287, on an hourly fee paid basis, of which 73 are based in Scotland.
The ONS' use of personal computers, servers, printers, fax machines and vehicles in these same periods is shown in the table below.

Dr. Moonie: [holding answer 27 March 2001]: Basic and advanced training of armoured fighting vehicle crewmen is undertaken at Armour
Centre, Bovington by a combination of military, Ministry of Defence civilian and contractor's staff. Neither numbers of staff nor
costs can be broken down between these categories; the following information is therefore provided.

Mr. Ennis: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about the supply of
components for the repair and maintenance of military DROPS trailers used by the Irish contingent in KFOR. [154447]
Mr. Vaz: We are happy to approve an export licence for the supply of goods needed for the repair and maintenance of military DROPS
trailers used by the Irish contingent of KFOR. The goods will assist KFOR in the valuable work they are doing reconstructing a
peaceful Kosovo.
The goods appear on the UK's Military List. UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1160 (1998) prohibits the sale or supply of arms
and related material to the FRY. However, UNSCR 1244 (1999) provides that the prohibition imposed by UNSCR 1160 shall not apply to
arms and related material for the use of the international civil and security presences in Kosovo.

operational tour was for (a) Army field ambulance units and (b) Army field hospital units in each of the last five years; and if he
will make a statement. [151802]
Dr. Moonie: [holding answer 7 March 2001]: The tour length for Field Hospitals, or main elements of Field Hospitals, was extended
from six months to one year in 2000. The average tour interval for Field Hospitals between 1995 and 1999 was nine months. The usual
tour length for all Field Ambulance units is six months, although in the last five years some units have deployed on short notice
deployments for less than this. The average tour interval for Field Ambulance units between 1995 and 2000 was 26 months. It is not
possible to break these averages down by year as requested, as many deployments span more than one calendar year and the
reorganisation of nine Field Ambulance units into five Medical Regiments between 1999 and 2000 further complicates the issue.
Tour lengths and intervals for individuals do not necessarily match those for units. For example, individuals in Field Hospital
units would not normally deploy for more than six months, and some only for much shorter periods, even though the unit tour length
is now one year.
