That this House expresses concern at the increasing number of dog thefts reported in the media; is further concerned that there is evidence of an organised trade in stolen dogs; notes that dogs are very special to the lives of thousands of people in Britain; urges all dog owners to look after the security and protection of their pets at all times; recognises the tireless work of Dog Theft Action and Doglost UK; and urges the Government and local government, vets, the Police, welfare organisations and rescue centres to adapt their procedures in favour of a more effective service that results in more dogs being re-united with their rightful owners.

That this House notes with concern that the Royal Mail has banned Postman Andrew Jamieson from taking his dog Oscar with him on his rounds after a single complaint; further notes that Oscar is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, one of the most loyal and friendly breeds of dog; recognises that both Mr Jamieson and Oscar are marvellous ambassadors for the Royal Mail; and urges the Royal Mail to take note of the 500 strong petition signed by residents of Tynemouth to allow Oscar to continue to accompany Mr Jamieson and reverse this unwarranted decision.
