QR codes are quick links which point to locations on the internet so, as with other types of links, users should avoid clicking on those which seem suspicious and be particularly wary of those from unknown sources. Some smartphones and apps enable the user to check the link address before visiting the website to assess whether it is genuine. Further information on how the public can protect themselves online is available at www.cyberaware.gov.uk.
QR codes are managed by companies and organisations to interact with their customers. Like other digital technologies, these carry an element of risk. Organisations are urged to follow NCSC guidance to manage their digital technologies against cyber threats. The government is working to set standards on cyber security, provide advice and guidance to businesses, organisations and consumers on how to protect themselves online and will mandate these where necessary.

My Department and VisitEngland regularly assess the impact of Government funding for tourism product development in England on various aspects of the industry.
One of the core objectives of VisitEngland’s £45.5m Discover England Fund (DEF) was to ensure products were bookable online and therefore easier to access in domestic and international markets. With the number of online-bookable products in England increasing through DEF, there has been greater appreciation for the value in using a booking system to distribute and sell tourism products.
Tourism Exchange GB (TXGB) is the online digital platform created in partnership with VisitBritain/VisitEngland to help suppliers across the UK reach more consumers.
TXGB actively encourages any booking system to integrate itself within the platform, providing them with the opportunity to access new products. There are currently 83 booking systems integrated to TXGB and a pipeline of further activity to increase this number.

If the app advises a person to self-isolate for a shorter period of time than the period advised by contact tracers, they must self-isolate for the time advised by contact tracers in order to comply with the law. If the app advises a longer period than the period advised by contact tracers, then the additional time period identified by the app is advisory but is a recommended precaution.
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what recent assessment he has made of the reasons why people are being provided with different self-isolation end dates by the NHS Track and Trace app and the NHS text messaging service.

There are a number of reasons why the NHS COVID-19 app’s isolation countdown may differ from what people have been told by NHS Test and Trace in England.
The COVID-19 app support website provides further advice at the following links:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps he is taking to ensure the NHS Track and Trace app and the NHS text messaging service are synchronised when giving self-isolation end dates.

There remain some circumstances when the app’s isolation countdown may legitimately differ from what people have been told by NHS Test and Trace in England. For example, the app may have identified a close contact with an unknown person who later tests positive, who contact tracers would not be able to identify due to the app’s anonymity.

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) led catch recording application currently remains in a ‘public beta’ phase, which includes a rollout of the service to the fishing sector. During this phase the MMO has published information, advice and guidance to provide support to all users. Current figures indicate over 80% of the active under 10 metre fleet have adopted the new recording method with over 80,000 catch records successfully submitted.
The MMO remains committed to continuous improvement based on feedback from stakeholders to improve the app’s functionality and since launching the app this feedback has helped inform additional system improvements. This has included increasing the number of ports available within the app and the ability to record weights of fish lower than 1kg.
