To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, pursuant to the Answer of 20 December 2018 to Question 202774 on Child Sexual Abuse Independent Panel Inquiry, what future support his Department plans to provide to the Family Restoration Fund for former child migrants
On 19 December the Government published its response to the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse's Interim Report and its report on Child Migration Programmes. The response states that the Government will establish an ex-gratia payment scheme and will ensure that former child migrants receive a payment as soon as possible, in recognition of the fundamentally flawed nature of the historic child migration policy. Further details will be provided shortly.
The Government response also recognised that the Family Restoration Fund provides a valuable service and stated that the Government will continue the Fund until the end of the current scheme, by which time the Fund will have provided over £8 million to support reunions, over more than a decade. Beyond this future funding decisions will be a matter for the upcoming spending review.

On 19 December the Government published its response to the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse's (IICSA) Interim Report and its report on Child Migrant Programmes. The Government’s response outlines the Prime Minister’s decision to ensure that former child migrants receive a payment as soon as possible, in recognition of the fundamentally flawed nature of the historic child migration policy. It is our intention that the ex-gratia payment scheme is set up without delay, and further details will be provided in the new year.
We are aware that a number of former child migrants have sadly passed away since the IICSA Child Migration Programmes report was published, so the Government will accept applications in respect of any former child migrant who was alive on 1 March 2018, when the Inquiry’s Child Migration Programmes report was published.
We are grateful to the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse for putting this recommendation forward, and will continue to support former migrants through the Family Restoration Fund, which we set up in 2010 to reunite child migrants with their families.

Successive Governments supressed information, ignored warnings and continued to send children to harm for decades. The report is unequivocal that compensation is owed and that this is now urgent. Many have died and others are dying, but in the last four weeks the Government have failed to issue a response, to set out any timetable for a response or even to agree which Department is responsible for formulating a response. The Prime Minister commissioned this report. Will she now get a grip on her Government, stand by its verdict and ensure that no more have to die waiting for justice?
