Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) compliance is integrated into the day-to-day development and delivery of all policies and services; as such, it is a core responsibility of all civil servants across the Cabinet Office, rather than being restricted to dedicated personnel.
Advisory support is provided by small teams within the Office for Equality and Opportunity and Cabinet Office HR, who hold multi-portfolio responsibilities. To protect personal data, headcount figures for teams of five individuals or fewer are withheld. Consequently, it is not possible to give a specific headcount, total annual cost, or distinct outputs dedicated solely to PSED compliance.
Sponsored Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs) are independent public authorities directly responsible for their own compliance, and the Equality and Human Rights Commission, as one such ALB sponsored by the Cabinet Office, is also responsible for enforcement of the Equality Act 2010 including PSED. To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, if he will list each local government representative who attended the National Economic Council meeting.
The Prime Minister chaired the first meeting of the revived National Economic Council at No. 10 North on Friday 24 July. This meeting brought together senior ministers, regional English mayors and the Chair of the Local Government Association to put devolution at the centre of the Government’s mission to make Britain better.
The National Economic Council was first established in 2008 to provide a national response to an economic emergency. Its revival reflects the Prime Minister’s belief that delivering economic growth now requires the same level of urgency, focus and collective action, bringing together other government departments and local leaders.
