The Department has several large corporate databases relating to finance, human resources and business records management. Data quality is an important factor and there are processes in place to ensure the currency of our data holdings. We include the use of automated and semi-automated checks to verify the accuracy and validity of data items. The Department is currently undergoing major structural change and it is recognised that the status of some items will alter significantly; as these changes occur our databases will be kept updated. It is estimated that data inaccuracy in the above mentioned repositories is less than 1 per cent.Chief Executives of the Department's agencies have been asked to write to the hon. In 2000 the Department of Trade and Industry transferred ownership of its core IT infrastructure as part of a long-term private finance initiative (PFI) agreement to a consortium led by Fujitsu. The use of IT equipment such as PCs, laptops, servers, scanners and printers is now, in the main, provided as a service through the PFI partner, Fujitsu. The use of photocopiers is also provided mainly through supplier leasing arrangements. Details of fax machines owned by the Department are shown in the following table. The chief executives of the Department's Agencies have been asked to write to the hon. Member in respect of their equipment holdings.

For expenditure on advertising by my Department through COI from 1995–96 to 2000–01, I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Twickenham on 20 November 2001, Official Report, column 162W. Expenditure for 2001–02, 2002–03 and 2003–04 (to date) was £6,610,240, £13,741,906 and £2,044,497 respectively. These figures include advertising by the Small Business Service and exclude VAT.Information on publicity expenditure from centrally held budgets is contained in the Government's expenditure plans and, more recently, the DTI's annual departmental report, which are available in the Libraries of the House. The Department fully supports the joint Management Consultancies Association (MCA), Institute of Management Consultancy (IMC) and Office of Government Commerce (OGC) statement of best practice document ““Delivering world-class consultancy services to the public sector””. This document emphasises the working relationships that the public sector client and consultant will seek to achieve in the development and execution of a consultancy contract.The Department's standard Invitation to Tender (ITT) document requires potential consultants to provide documentary evidence of their proposed expenses, with which the Department must be satisfied prior to entering into contract. The Department's contract documentation stipulates that only travelling and other expenses that are properly and necessarily incurred in providing the services will be reimbursed.I have asked the Department's Executive Agencies to respond directly to the hon. Since May 1997, my Department has not carried out any new building work. Any refurbishments works carried out in this period have not involved changes to building structures and services for which a BREEAM assessment would be appropriate.In 1996 a BREEAM assessment was undertaken as part of the major refurbishment of 1 Victoria Street when it achieved a very good rating.Letter from Ron Marchant to Mr. Alan Reid, dated 9 November 2005:"I am responding to this parliamentary question, tabled on 20 October 2005.
