That this House supports Carers Week 2026, taking place from 8 to 14 June 2026; recognises that this year’s theme, Building Carer Friendly Communities, highlights the importance of creating supportive environments for unpaid carers; notes that millions of unpaid carers looking after family members and friends often face significant challenges and inequalities in their daily lives, including financial hardship, poor mental and physical health outcomes, and barriers to employment and education; calls on the Government to address the significant inequalities faced by unpaid carers and to commit to ensuring that carers receive the support they need and deserve; and endeavours to build a society that treats all carers equitably and recognises the vital contribution they make to communities across the UK.

That this House supports Carers Week 2022, which is taking place from 6 to 12 June; recognises this year’s theme of making caring visible, valued and supported; emphasises the invaluable contribution that millions of unpaid carers make across the UK on a daily basis, by providing care to their family and friends who are disabled, ill or older and need support; highlights that unpaid carers save the British taxpayer £400 billion each year; acknowledges that unpaid carers have been under additional pressure over the past two and a half years and are urgently in need of more support; and calls on the Government to develop a recovery and respite plan for unpaid carers that recognises the enormous impact the covid-19 pandemic has had on carers’ lives and sets out practical steps to mitigate some of the negative impacts that caring can have on carers’ own physical and mental health.

That this House supports Carers Week which takes place on the 7th to the 13th June 2021; notes that Week’s theme is Make Caring Visible and Valued; highlights the invaluable contribution that over 6.5 million unpaid carers make to their local communities across the UK; recognises that carers have been under extraordinary pressure during the Coronavirus pandemic and that many of the challenges that those carers face have intensified, meaning that 81 per cent of carers are spending more time on their caring responsibilities and two thirds of carers have not had any breaks at all since the beginning of the pandemic; and calls on the Government to provide unpaid carers with the support services that they need, including respite care so that carers can take regular breaks.

That this House expresses its admiration for the six million people in the UK who provide unpaid help and support to a relative or friend who could not otherwise manage because of frailty, illness or disability; is concerned that large numbers of carers are unknown to statutory agencies; notes that Carers Week, being held this year from 12th to 18th June, has the theme of carers and health, with the objective of assisting carers and enabling them to access support and services; believes that carers need to be viewed as key partners in community care; is further concerned that 79 per cent. of carers say that their health has been affected by caring; further notes that nine out of 10 carers believe they will benefit from annual health checks; and calls on local statutory health bodies to carry out an audit of good practice in their area and to establish timescales for the introduction of health checks for carers.
