I thank the Secretary of State for that answer and I am very pleased with the Government’s measures to attract more foreign students. My constituency certainly houses one of the best international schools in the country, Concord college, and I invite the Secretary of State to come along and see the work that is done there. Its impact on the rural local economy is huge, with so many foreign students coming in and contributing to it, so it is important that we continue to get our fair share of foreign students coming to learn in our country.

I would be delighted to visit Shrewsbury at some stage in my schedule to see that college in action—
In Atcham and in action. The hon. Member for Shrewsbury and Atcham (Daniel Kawczynski) is absolutely right to stress the importance of overseas students, particularly to the UK economy. It is estimated that overseas students bring in £5 billion in fees and other spending while they are over here. Overseas students studying in the UK are crucial to our need to address the economic problems of the 21st century, particularly in respect of globalisation. I agree with the hon. Gentleman, which is exactly why the second phase of the Prime Minister’s initiative was announced in April

From April 2006, new contracts for dentists will abolish the traditional fee per item remuneration system and support new ways of working. Evidence from personal dental services pilot schemes is that these new ways of working free up significant capacity that dentists can use to spend more time with patients and provide more preventative care.Dentists' current national health service earnings will be protected for at least three years and there will be a 5 per cent. reduction in the courses of treatment that general dental services practitioners are expected to carry out each year.From April 2006, primary care trusts (PCTs) will also have devolved responsibility and ring-fenced budgets for commissioning primary dental services. This means that, if a dentist leaves the NHS or reduces their NHS commitment, the resources stay with the PCT to be re-invested in local dental services.

The table shows the percentage of adults who were registered with a national health service dentist in the Shropshire county PCT
area in each year since 1997.

Yvette Cooper: Information about local authorities' actions under homelessness legislation is collected quarterly and is in respect
of households rather than families. The number of households accepted as eligible for assistance, unintentionally homeless and in
priority need and the number of households in temporary accommodation arranged by local authorities under homelessness legislation
as at 31 March of each year in Shrewsbury and Atcham, since 1997, is tabled as follows. Also shown is the number of
acceptances, and those in temporary accommodation, as a percentage of all households in Shrewsbury and Atcham.
After being accepted as homeless, a household will be placed in some form of accommodation. They may be placed in temporary
accommodation, until a settled solution becomes available, or they may be given a settled solution straight away depending on the
accommodation available to the local authority. As an alternative to temporary accommodation an authority may arrange for a
household to remain in their current accommodation (homeless at home), until a settled solution becomes available.

Information prior to 2002 is available by health authority (HA). Shrewsbury and Atcham was within Shropshire HA. Table 1 shows the
number of community pharmacies in Shropshire HA for the years 1997-98 to 2001-02.
Since 2002, the former Shropshire HA has been covered by Shropshire county primary care trust (PCT) and Telford and Wrekin PCT.
Table 2 shows the number of community pharmacies for the years 2002-03 and 2003-04.

Keith Hill: Local authorities report their activities under homelessness legislation quarterly, and this includes the number of
homeless households in various forms of temporary accommodation as on the last day of the quarter. Information reported by
Shrewsbury and Atcham DC is tabled as follows. At the 30 June 2004, 70 per cent. of households were accommodated in
stock owned by a Registered Social Landlord; and 29 per cent. were in hostel accommodation. There was only one household in
B&B type accommodation.

Dr. Ladyman: The information is not available in the form requested.
39,000 children aged under 18 were registered with a general dental service practice in the Shropshire County Primary Care Trust
(PCT) area on 31 March 2004.
Some of the children registered will be resident outside the PCT area. Similarly, some children from the area will be registered
with dentists who practice outside the area.
The population estimate for Shropshire County PCT is 61,000 children under the age of 18. The difference between the population

dentist within 15 months. Registrations will exclude patients who have not been to their general dental service (CDS) dentist within
the past 15 months and patients who receive dental treatment from other national health service dental services. It should also be
noted that the figures do not include patients attending the dental access centres which opened during the period and whose patients
are not registered.
NHS dental services are also provided by the community dental service, personal dental service, salaried service of the CDS and the
hospital dental service. These services do not require the patient to be registered with a dentist before treatment.

Mr. Jamieson: The West Mercia Partnership, which covers Shrewsbury and Atcham, has confirmed that they are adhering to the guidance
and rules for the operation of safety camera activity. Partnerships are expected on a continuing basis to keep camera sites and
enforcement at them under review. My Department will shortly publish an independent report on the operation of the Safety Camera
Programme for its first three years, and will also publish details of all safety camera sites in the cost recovery programme.

Caroline Flint: The available information on the number of court fines and fixed penalties issued within the police force area of
West Mercia for the offence of `speeding detected by camera' for 1997-2001 is shown in the table. It is not possible from the data
collected centrally to identify Shrewsbury and Atcham.
