Bananas: Import Duties

Question: To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the potential impact on banana producers and rural livelihoods in Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Cameroon of suspending the Most Favoured Nation tariff on fresh bananas, following their consultation on goods for potential tariff suspensions.

Answer

We have received evidence on the impact of liberalising bananas on producers in developing countries as part of the Call for Input on Cost-of-Living Tariff Suspensions which closed on 24^th June.

HM Treasury and the Department for Business and Trade, working with other relevant departments, are carefully considering that evidence ahead of making a final decision.
