To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what assessment he has made of the circumstances surrounding the death of United States missionary, Charles Wesco, in the town of Bamenda, Cameroon, on 30 October 2018.
We were saddened by the reports of Mr Wesco's death and send our deepest condolences to his family. All missionaries and humanitarian workers should be able to work and support communities safely. The Cameroon authorities are conducting a formal investigation into his death.

​I would like to express my condolences to the family and friends of Ian Squire who died in Nigeria following his kidnapping on 13 October. He devoted his life to helping others and it is clear he touched many lives during the course of his work. I welcome the release of David and Shirley Donovan and Alana Carson, kidnapped alongside Ian. We will continue to do all we can to support the families. I am grateful to the Nigerian authorities for their assistance.
The safety of British Nationals living and working abroad is a priority for this Government. We liaised closely with Nigerian authorities throughout the recent kidnap and regularly discuss security issues in Nigeria with members of the Nigerian Government at the highest levels. There is a high threat of kidnap throughout Nigeria, either for financial or political gain, or motivated by criminality. This is set out in our travel advice for Nigeria, which is kept under constant review.

Effective use of the UK Aid budget is central to the Department for International Development’s work. All funding is subject to rigorous due diligence checks and we have strict auditing and monitoring controls in place to ensure all funding is used as it should be. Every project is subject to an annual performance review and a project completion review to ensure that the objectives have been achieved and aid has been delivered to the intended beneficiaries. The Department uses multiple sources of information, including its partnerships with Civil Society, to be confident UK Aid reaches those intended.

We are not able to provide a breakdown of Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) UK based staff numbers by grade at individual UK missions for operational security reasons. Please find attached numbers of FCO UK based staff by Post and Country and separately by civil service grade on 1st January 2016.
The charity Youth with a Mission provides missionaries in Wrexham who help with food banks and work hard in the local community. On 23 December, the charity received notification that its highly trusted status was being suspended. Will the Home Secretary look closely at that faith-based organisation? Many churches within Wrexham have approached me because they are concerned that that help will be removed from my local community.

That this House notes with grave concern that the Russian Supreme Soviet, part of the Congress of People's Deputies, passed a new amendment to the 1990 Freedom of Religion Law, which would restrict the activities of foreign missionaries in Russia, by banning them from independent missionary work, proselytising, publishing, business deals and advertising unless they receive accreditation from Russian authorities; and urges President Yeltsin to use his power of veto on this attempt to curb the freedom of religion in Russia, which discriminates against those who wish to be a member of a church other than the Russian Orthodox Church.
