Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor David Atkinson (Conservative), on Monday, 19 July 1993, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 30 members in total.

FREEDOM OF RELIGION IN RUSSIA

That this House notes with grave concern that the Russian Supreme Soviet, part of the Congress of People's Deputies, passed a new amendment to the 1990 Freedom of Religion Law, which would restrict the activities of foreign missionaries in Russia, by banning them from independent missionary work, proselytising, publishing, business deals and advertising unless they receive accreditation from Russian authorities; and urges President Yeltsin to use his power of veto on this attempt to curb the freedom of religion in Russia, which discriminates against those who wish to be a member of a church other than the Russian Orthodox Church.
