Across Government we are taking a range of action to prevent drug use, improve treatment and recovery support, and support enforcement partners to tackle drug supply.

Each of the departments involved in this work is contributing to reducing harms. In the Home Office we have legislated to control harmful new synthetic opioids, with further controls due to be laid in Parliament soon, we have legislated to expand police powers in relation to drug testing on arrest to enable more people to be diverted into treatment where appropriate and we are making good progress in our work with partner countries to stem the source, target supply routes and secure the UK border.

We are investing £3.4bn in treatment and recovery over the next three years and in DHSC there is a strong focus on further improving the quality of treatment, reducing drug and alcohol related deaths and working closely with MoJ on treatment for those in the criminal justice system, including through improving continuity of care between prison and the community.

DWP and DHSC’s Individual Placement Support programme provides tailored help to those in treatment for drug or alcohol dependency to get into paid work. In DfE the new RSHE curriculum is in place from this term, supporting the mandatory requirement for education on the harms of drugs.

MHCLG are leading delivery of the Prime Minister’s commitment to end rough sleeping and working closely with DHSC to improve treatment access and recovery outcomes for people experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping through the Rough Sleeping Drug and Alcohol Treatment (RSDAT) and Housing Support programmes.

The cross-government Joint Combating Drugs Unit (JCDU) works closely with departments to ensure a coordinated, whole-system approach at a national level and with Combating Drugs Partnerships (CDPs) in every area of the country to support a joined-up approach at local level. A recent independent evaluation found that CDPs have strengthened multi-agency working with strong leadership and clear governance key to success (www.gov.uk/government/publications/process-evaluation-of-combating-drugs-partnerships/process-evaluation-of-combating-drugs-partnerships).

I have asked Dame Carol Black, our independent advisor on drugs, to undertake a programme of work to improve our understanding of the opportunities and challenges.

The Government recognises that UK consumers have been exploited by ticket touts for too long, which is why we have announced new measures to put fans back at the heart of live events and eliminate the scourge of industrial scale ticket touting. We will publish a draft bill for pre-legislative scrutiny, allowing us to draw on expertise from across Parliament and industry, in order to ensure that the legislation is effective, enforceable, and future-proof. Our published analysis suggests that these measures could save consumers around £112 million annually.

The Government held the first-ever UK-EU summit last year, where we announced a new common understanding that is good for bills, for borders and for jobs. We look forward to going further at the next UK-EU summit, which will be held at the earliest possible opportunity.

The Department has held a series of Ministerial roundtables with the public service media providers and video sharing platforms to encourage industry led voluntary partnerships ensuring public service media content is made prominent, and on fair terms. While our strong preference is for voluntary agreements, and we are undertaking work to promote these, if we need to legislate we will.

A tremendous question. Helping touring artists is a manifesto commitment. At last year’s UK-EU summit, the UK and the European Commission committed to supporting cultural exchange, recognising those touring artists. I discussed cultural professionals’ working conditions with the European culture commissioner at the first high-level meeting on culture in March. Digital ATA carnets that enable movement without customs declarations or duties were launched on 1 June across the UK, EU, Norway and Switzerland. We continue to engage with our EU counterparts at all levels and with industry to support touring.

The settlements in the west bank are a fundamental barrier to peace, and a flagrant breach of international law. We condemn the rising and incredibly disturbing settler violence that we have seen over the past year. Last week I announced a new wave of sanctions to target the networks that are supporting this violence, which is the fourth package of sanctions against extremist Israeli settlers under this Government.

Great British Railways will create a railway run by the people for the people, turning the tide on a decade of decline under the previous Government. Eighty per cent of the rail journeys that will ultimately be run by GBR are now being run by publicly owned operators, and we are already seeing more reliable services as a result.

The UK is playing a leading role with France to secure the Strait of Hormuz through a multinational military mission of over 40 nations.

The department values the contribution schools with a religious character make to a diverse school system, and it is important faith schools can set admissions criteria that work for their local circumstances.

The government set out in the ‘Every Child Achieving and Thriving’ White Paper its intention to consult later this year on changes to the statutory School Admissions Code to reduce barriers and promote fairness for families.

Any changes to the School Admissions Code will be subject to a full public consultation and Parliamentary scrutiny.

The National Disease Registration Service (NDRS) in NHS England collects, curates, quality assures, and analyses data about people with cancer across the whole of England.

The NDRS data improvement team is working with National Health Service trusts to provide support and guidance to improve their reporting of non-primary cancers, focused on the specific recurrence and progression data fields included in the Cancer Outcomes and Services Dataset. This includes updates on trust submitted recurrence data in our routine ‘diagnoses by provider’ dashboard, available on our NHS facing, secure CancerStats2 site.

The Government has set out in the National Cancer Plan for England an ambition to define and count recurrent cancers, starting with metastatic breast cancer from 2026. Existing data improvement activity within NDRS provides a foundation to support progress towards this ambition.
