Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor David Atkinson (Conservative), on Tuesday, 16 July 1996, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 11 members in total.
ROYAL MAIL STATUTORY MONOPOLY
That this House welcomes the Government's review of the Royal Mail's statutory monopoly on delivery of letters under ??1; notes that this one of the few artificial monopolies left remaining and that this monopoly leaves the consumer at the mercy of a single industrial dispute at a huge cost to the economy; hopes that consumer choice will be extended in this most crucial area of our national life; and looks forward to a positive outcome of the review.
