Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Nigel Evans (Conservative), on Wednesday, 3 November 1999, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 12 members in total.
WELSH AGRICULTURE SECRETARY
That this House condemns the Welsh Agriculture Secretary, Christine Gwyther, for not resigning after the National Assembly for Wales voted to censure her on 19th October over her incompetent handling of the current crisis in Welsh farming; notes that if such a vote against a member of Her Majesty's Government were to take place in this House, a Minister would be expected to resign immediately; and further notes that on 2nd November the Liberal Democrat and Plaid Cymru Assembly members abstained on a Conservative motion of no confidence in the First Secretary, the honourable member for Cardiff South and Penarth, for his failure to sack Christine Gwyther and replace her with a new Agriculture Secretary, who has the confidence of Welsh farmers and is prepared to fight for their interests.

- 973A1
- leave out from 'resigning' to end
- 973A2
- leave out from 'House' to end and add 'congratulates the Welsh Agriculture Secretary, Christine Gwyther, for doing the best anyone could do to promote the interests of Welsh farmers, working in co-operation with Ministers and the industry, providing a strong voice for Wales in the UK and Europe and ignoring the puerile personalised harassment by the Conservative Party in Wales which has abrogated any right to be taken seriously in a country where they do not have a single honourable Member.'.
