Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Hilary Benn (Labour), on Tuesday, 23 May 2000, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 84 members in total.

CHARGES FOR PRE-PAYMENT METER CUSTOMERS

That this House notes with deep concern that consumers using pre-payment meters are currently being charged higher prices for their gas and electricity than those who pay by direct debit; regards this excessive charging of many people on low incomes, including those without access to bank accounts, as unacceptable; and urges Ofgem to ensure that this practice ends as soon as possible.
