Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Graham Stringer (Labour), on Tuesday, 6 July 2004, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 31 members in total.

STATE AID TO AIRLINES

That this House welcomes the Government's opposition to the latest tranche of state aid to Alitalia; calls upon the European Commission to declare such aid illegal; notes that Alitalia has already received substantial aid from the Italian Government and believes such aid severely distorts the European aviation market to the detriment of UK airlines and jobs; regrets the financial support provided by the US Administration to US airlines which is in effect subsidising the fares of American carriers across the North Atlantic, further undermining UK aviation and jobs; and urges ministers to continue to oppose such subsidies.
