Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Mark Lazarowicz (Labour and Co-operative Party), on Wednesday, 3 December 2003, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 107 members in total.

Energy Disconnections

That this House notes the continuing high levels of disconnections from energy supply due to debt, currently running at around 22,000 per year; is concerned that with expected price rises this problem will be exacerbated; recognises that disconnections is the most extreme form of fuel poverty and its continuation compromises the Government's aim to end fuel poverty; believes this is unacceptable and supports energywatch's call to end disconnections for debt; and calls upon the Government to provide legislative protection for the most vulnerable in society by ending disconnections through amendments to the Utilities Act 2000 through the proposed legislation on energy matters outlined in the Queen's speech.
