Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Sharon Hodgson (Labour), on Tuesday, 15 January 2008, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 48 members in total.
RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES
That this House recognises that the average UK household uses 21 batteries a year, which generates 20,000 to 30,000 tonnes of waste batteries of which fewer than 1,000 tonnes are recycled; believes greater steps should be taken by manufacturers, retailers and consumers to increase the use of rechargeable batteries; congratulates the Sunderland Echo and its partners Wear1 on their Recharging the City campaign; and encourages hon. Members to follow the fine example set by the campaign and promote the use of rechargeable batteries in their constituencies.
