THE MOTOR CAR, THE MIDLANDS AND THE SPECIAL CAR TAX
That this House welcomes the Chancellor's budget, with regard to the tax relief and benefits for the low paid, and particularly with regard to the immediate reduction of 50 per cent. of the special car tax, which has had immediate effect in helping the new and used car market; hopes that the government will shortly remove the other 50 per cent. for European or European-manufactured cars and make a similar concessions available for long-term car leasing by extending the value of vehicle allowance for taxation from ??8,000 to ??20,000; and welcomes the public's immediate well-disposed reaction in the increased purchase of vehicles in Birmingham, Yardley, and Britain.
