Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Graham Riddick (Conservative), on Friday, 20 July 1990, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 113 members in total.

Political Impartiality on Television

That this House notes with concern the bias of a number of television programmes, such as BBC 2's The Summer of the Bomb and Channel 4's Oh Superman, in which the playwright Harold Pinter violently attacked United States' foreign policy and the Prime Minister's support for it; further notes that research has shown certain current affairs programmes, in particular Granada Television's World in Action, to be consistently one-sided; and calls on the Government to support the principles of the amendments to the Broadcasting Bill recently debated in the Upper House which would ensure that television and radio programmes and series would present an impartial, unbiased view of political and insustrial issues, past and present.

Political Impartiality on Television (1318A1)
The Early day motion has received an amendment sponsored by Lord Grocott (primary, Labour) and tabled on Sunday, 22 July 1990. It has been signed by 35 members in total.
Leave out from 'bias' to end and insert 'of the majority of British national newspapers, most of which for eleven long years, have offered nothing but sycophantic support for the Conservative government in general and the Prime Minister in particular; and believes that the democratically established codes of practice on impartiality and political balance which govern television and radio are one of the reasons why British broadcasting is admired throughout the world and the British press is not.'.
