CLOSURE OF BIR ZEIT UNIVERSITY

That this House notes with concern the continued closure of the Palestinian University of Bir Zeit in the West Bank and that the closure contravenes the fourth Geneva Convention and has been condemned by the European Parliament, the United Nations, the United States and other governments; also recognises the universal right to an education regardless of race or gender; applauds the work of the British charity, The Friends of Bir Zeit University in supporting education at Bir Zeit University; and urges Her Majesty's Government to make representations to the Israeli Government to re-open Bir Zeit University, thus fulfilling its international responsibilities and helping to create the right atmosphere for steps towards peace and justice in the region.
