Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Barbara Roche (Labour), on Monday, 26 July 1993, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 40 members in total.

PRISON ESCORT SERVICES IN LONDON

That this House notes that the Home Office is inviting tenders within the next fortnight to run the escort services covering London's courts; expresses concern over the Home Office letter leaked to the Guardian making clear to the Chief Constable of Humberside that the savings to be made by replacing police officers with Group 4 staff on court duties were never intended to be used to increase the number of officers on other operational duties; and urges the Home Office to reconsider tendering out, and to ensure that the court escort servcie is staffed by properly qualified and paid officers so that public safety and prisoner care is not jeopardised in favour of increasing the takings of companies who wish to profit from the prison system.
