School libraries and librarians and the National Year of Reading 2026

That this House recognises and celebrates the importance of school libraries in the UK; celebrates the importance of reading particularly in the National Literacy Trust’s National Year of Reading; supports expanding library provision and access in schools; notes just how crucial reading is for education and development for school students of all ages and beyond; further celebrates that Kyra Kane from Inscape House School in Cheadle was shortlisted as a finalist in the School Library Association’s Pupil Librarian of the Year Awards; further notes that Kyra works hard to inspire fellow students to read more for pleasure, utilise library resources and generally support peers; and commends and thanks all school librarians across the country for their commitment to literature, reading and education.
