Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Ben Maguire (Liberal Democrat), on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 44 members in total.
Coastguard remuneration
That this House is deeply troubled by the Department for Transport’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s plans to cut Coastguard volunteers’ remuneration; notes with concern the significant support these services provide not only during peak tourist seasons, when visitors may be unfamiliar with local conditions and face heightened risks, but also their vital role in supporting the fishing industries along the nation’s coastlines; recognises the dedication of volunteers who serve out of passion and at considerable personal sacrifice, including time away from their families; further notes that the current remuneration represents only a small contribution towards their efforts; and warns that its removal risks creating substantial and potentially irreversible gaps in service provision.
