Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Sarah Olney (Liberal Democrat), on Thursday, 22 October 2026, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 13 members in total.
Application of Extended Producer Responsibility
That this House recognises the importance of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in reducing packaging waste, tackling plastic pollution and increasing recycling rates; supports the principle that producers should pay for the packaging they place on the market; notes, however, that many businesses are not complying with their responsibilities; underlines that this creates an unfair playing field which advantages non-compliant businesses; highlights that the shortage of Packaging Recovery Notes has led to businesses having to pay even more to comply with EPR; and calls on the Government to level the playing field to ensure that businesses do not feel punished for being compliant.
