Mr. Drew: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what the cost of the military operation in Sierra Leone in 2001 was; and how many UK troops were involved. [221386] Mr. Ingram: The cost to the Ministry of Defence of military operations in Sierra Leone during 2000-01 was £16.9 million. At its peak in May 2000 there were 4,500 personnel deployed in Sierra Leone on Operation Palliser.
