- To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assessment the Government have made of whether the cleaners in his Department recently detained by the immigration and nationality directorate (a) were on the electoral roll at their home addresses and (b) had national insurance numbers; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 5 June 2006]: Prior to any operation, our normal practice is to check the details of any alleged offender against the electoral roll and where appropriate NI records. In this particular case, as the individuals were arrested immediately on Home Office premises and so no such checks were required.
