Railways: North-west

- Why the north-west regional planning assessment for the railways concludes, as its central case, that rail journeys within the region will increase by 12.3 per cent between 2002-03 and 2031-32.

The figure was based on an assumed GDP growth of 2.1 per cent per annum, trends-based forecasts of population and employment change, and current policy on the level of rail fares. Further details are set out on pages 45 and 50 of the north-west regional planning assessment document of October 2006. Copies are available in the Libraries of the House.
