Pensions
- Question
- To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what savings to the public purse his Department expects to make as a result of using the consumer prices index for the uprating of (a) benefits and (b) public sector pensions in (i) 2015-16 and (ii) each of the subsequent five years.
- Answer
-
I have been asked to reply. The fiscal impact of the switch to CPI for the uprating of benefits, tax credits and public service pensions for the years up to 2014-1 5 is set out in Table 2.1 of the June Budget. Any estimates of the impact in later years would be highly uncertain, depending on both the trends in price indices and the underlying caseloads.
