Maize: Imports

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what estimate she has made of the number of instances of the importation of maize without an EU import licence in each of the last four years.

Answer

I have been asked to reply.HMRC tell me that from 1 March 2007 to 28 February 2011, where EU import licences were in operation, the number of declarations for release to free circulation for maize accepted without such a licence were as follows:

	Declarations
2007	83
2008	80
2009	89
2010	102
2011	15

These declarations were accepted without a licence because they fell below the regulatory net quantity above which such a licence is required.
