Libya

- To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they will give details of civilians killed and injured in the recent NATO military actions in Libya, including air attacks; and what is the value of property that was destroyed by such attacks.

It is difficult to comment on alleged cases of civilian casualties resulting from NATO actions without verification by NATO personnel on the ground, which was not possible during the operation. All UK missions were meticulously planned to minimise the risk of civilian casualties, including using precision guided munitions and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance to strike legitimate military targets. Neither NATO nor the Ministry of Defence has made an assessment of the value of property destroyed during NATO operations and we do not hold sufficient information to make a realistic estimate.
