Somalia: Piracy
- Question
- To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what his policy is on use of force onshore against pirates in Somalia; and if he will make a statement.
- Answer

Any use of force by the military must be reasonable, necessary and proportionate and comply with applicable international law. Applicable international law includes UN Security Resolution 1851(2008)(renewed). Any further details remain classified for reasons of operational security.
