Aviation: Exhaust Emissions

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change what assessment he has made of the potential effects of the prohibition by the United States and China of their airlines taking part in the EU's emission trading scheme.
Answer

We are aware that a number of countries have raised their concerns and we are working with the Commission and other member states to find a resolution. In particular we are actively engaged in the recent work programme initiated in the International Civil Aviation Organization which is seeking to reach a global agreement to tackle aviation emissions.
