Written question asked by Lord Stoddart of Swindon (Independent Labour), in the House of Lords. It was answered by Lord Taylor of Holbeach (Conservative) on Tuesday, 1 May 2012.

Bullfighting

Question
To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether European Union funds are used to subsidise bullfighting or any aspect of it; if so, what is the latest available figure for the amount of such subsidy; and how much of it is paid by the United Kingdom.
Answer

While it is theoretically possible for funding to go towards bullfighting; for example, coupled beef sector payments and rural development or structural funds expenditure, we do not have the information available to answer the question without incurring disproportionately excessive cost. No such payments are made in the UK.
