Mr. Gordon Prentice: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what estimate he has made of average journey times from London to Birmingham on the M1-M6 for journeys embarked upon at peak and non-peak times in 1990 and 1996. [5245] Mr. Watts: None. Journey times are not yet systematically monitored on specific routes on the motorway network. However, the Highways Agency has research under way seeking to measure them automatically by both roadside and vehicle-mounted techniques.
