Dr. David Clark: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his answer of 14 November, Official Report, column 290, on British bases as part of the implementation force operation, if he will list to whom the payments are being made for the renting of United Kingdom bases in Bosnia and Croatia; and if he will make a statement. [6625] Mr. Soames: [holding answer 28 November 1996]: The UK does not make payments for facilities owned by the Governments of Bosnia and Croatia. Payments are, however, made for privately owned facilities; while these premises are occupied for military purposes, they are unable to be used for other commercial purposes. It is right, therefore, that private owners should not be financially disadvantaged. Contracts covering all the bases listed in my previous answer, Official Report, column 290, are currently held with the following companies: In Croatia: Koncar Elektrincni Uredaja Dalma Holding Mepling SPO Trast dd Jadrantrans TTTS do Vinko Brkan Kovoinoinstalaci In Bosnia: "Bosna" Shoe Factory DIP Kupres JLG Mihnygevic Sumarita IGO Kupres SIP Kljuc Energoinvest Zvonimorova bb Municipality Glamoc DDDI "Sana" JIP "Ostrelj" "Unis" Aluminka Factory Agropromet 1 Maj Metalska 1 Maj Zavrsni "Gradja" 1 Maj Drvodjelska "Prijedorcanka" "Kooperacija" Kupres Coal Mine "Gracanica" Zracna Luka Split Tvarnica Cable Tvornica Za Obradu Metala HNK Tomislav DD Sarajevski In addition, we have a number of contracts with private individuals. Publishing names of individual owners, however, may endanger their physical safety.
