Question: (Daily part reference c578W) What proportion of the Environmental Technology Best Practice Programme is devoted to (a) schemes to reduce effluent discharges and (b) schemes to reduce demand for water. - Inc figures.

Answer: Mrs. Helen Jackson: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what proportion of the environmental technology best practice programme is devoted to (a) schemes to reduce effluent discharges and (b) schemes to reduce demand for water. [7159] Mr. Clappison: Committed expenditure under the environmental technology best practice programme on water and effluent projects is currently 41 per cent. Eight per cent. of this expenditure is on projects with a focus on water minimisation; 22 per cent. is on projects with a focus on effluent reduction; and 11 per cent. is on projects that cover both areas.
