Question: What measures she is considering to encourage touring by arts groups. (Failed OPQ)

Answer: Sir Michael Neubert: To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what measures she is considering to encourage touring by arts groups. [37948] Mrs. Virginia Bottomley: On 1 April 1996 I announced a new direction to the Arts Council of England under the National Lottery etc. Act 1993 requiring it to take into account the desirability of facilitating access to and participation in the arts. I believe that enabling touring companies to travel to new venues and communities in isolated areas is an important priority in increasing access.
